Now already into the 4^th generation Mich.G. Birk Co. Kartonagen has been in existence for over 100 years. It has always been under the management and in the ownership of the members of the Birk family.

Over this long period of time Mich.G. Birk Kartonagen has witnessed and decisively contributed to the shaping of the whole history of the development of packaging for consumer products.

The production of quality packaging for quality products has always been our foremost company objective.

The company emerged at the end of the 19^th century out of a small family-run handicraft business: They produced shipping and storage packaging for consumer goods, predominantly for pharmaceutical and medical products ­ at first made from wood then paper and cardboard. And for the requirements of pharmacies and hospitals glass bottles and jars were manufactured, imprinted and painted.

After the turn of the century and in-between the two world wars an export trade emerged, founded upon technical-medical products and equipment for hospitals and pharmacies. The main target market was South America ­ in Mexico and Argentina subsidiary branches were opened.

The aftermath of the Second World War destroyed the basis of the export market and totally paralysed this sector of business.

In these conditions, the company once again dedicated itself to the development and production of packaging for consumer products ­ with paper and cardboard as the raw material. Circular and oval receptacles as well as rectangular boxes are our speciality. Among our customers rank all the big names from the cosmetic, confectionery, pyrotechnic and pharmaceutical industries.

Therefore our 50 year experience in this business sector enables us to fulfil quite specific customer requirements to the highest standard of quality.
